About The Foster Zoo

My photo
We have decided to blog our adventures again. So much has changed since we last blogged. Bella and Shiloh both went to their forever homes and they are in wonderful families. June Bug got adopted. We quit fostering dogs after those adoptions because Tanker's epilepsy got bad. We quit doing therapy dog work because Tanker's epilepsy got bad. Tanker passed away June 9th, 2013. We adopted a senior border collie named Shania Tankerbelle in his memory. We still have our two cats, Sweet Pea and Little Bit. Wes has started rescuing pitiful bettas from Wal-Mart and we currently have seven. We have a camper. We camp. We have focused on giving our animals the best lives possible. We are The Foster Zoo Crew and we like to have fun.

God's Love

I can't write much right now. I am just in an emotional state that words could not accurately depict how strongly I feel about how God loves us. My brother, John, opened up my eyes to who God really is. John did not go to church. John did not preach the Word of God to people. John was different. John lived for God. John did not hold grudges. He did not judge others for what they believed, what clothes they wore, what kind of family they came from, where they lived, the color of their skin, or the life they lived. He only loved them. John and I often debated religion when I went through my phase of being a religious person. He normally would come out on top and left me pondering about who God really was. God is bigger than any religion. God doesn't live by any specific rules or standards. God made us all different. None of us fits a set mold.
I gave the eulogy at John's funeral. It was my final gift to him. It was also his gift to me. What an honor to sit and ponder a life so filled with love. It came to my realization as I wrote the most meaningful speech of my life that a dog was the exact reflection of God. Just as dogs come in all colors, shapes, and sizes, God is different to each and every one of us. God loves each of us differently. All dogs are loyal, full of joy, non judging, forgiving, and your partner until the end. It's no wonder John was such a dog person. Was John's purpose on earth to show us love? Did the brother I used to debate religion with all the time have the answer all along? I believe so. We are to love one another. When we are scolded, we may wimper like a dog and cower in fear of others, and we may even fight back to protect ourselves, but in the end, we are to forgive and love. And that, my friends, is why a dog is the reflection of God.

  2. He was an amazing person, Laura. He loved all people and animals. He had several rescued animals when he passed away. He owned his own automotive business and he did a car care ministry once a month where he would donate his time and fix people's cars at cost of parts only so that people who couldn't afford car care could afford it. He shaved his head to look like me when I was in high school and was bald so that I would feel better about myself. He was the epiphany of love. He loved the way God intended us to, without judgement, despite differences, despite criticism. He was a better person than me, for sure. I let others get to me. He was able to just brush them off.

I have his eulogy on my mom's computer in Georgia. I think I will post it. I know this is supposed to be a blog about our dogs and volunteer work, but if people want to understand us and our mission to spread God's love through our dogs, they must first know my brother.
