We took Tango and Bella back to the vet today. Bella had her stitches taken out of her ear and the vet said it healed up very nicely. That is a relief given the gaping wound she had before it was stitched up. Bella did really well while they were taking the stitches out. She does not mind being handled by other people at all.
Tango's incision from when she was spayed looks good as well. Tango also doesn't mind being held by other people. She got her Lyme and Influenza booster while at the vet today too. She was supposed to get them a week ago, but the vet wanted to wait since her incision was infected.
Both girls are healthy weights. Bella is almost 8 months old and is 53 pounds. She is a big, stocky girl. Tango is less than a year (maybe 10 or 11 months) and she is 32 pounds. I think she is pretty little for an Australian Cattle Dog, but the vet says she is healthy. She is a petite little girl. I am hoping she will fill out a bit because I ordered a medium vest for her. That will swallow her whole right now! She should get a little bigger since she is still young.
Both Bella and Tango have to continue wearing their e-collars through the weekend and I have to wait to give them baths until Monday. Monday cannot come quick enough. They stink! An e-collar on a dog is like a cast on a human. They smell after a week.
Both dogs were a little stressed at the vet. Although stressed, they listened to commands well and sat when Wes and I asked them to. There was another dog in the waiting room that barked a few times. Our dogs barked back, but we kept them under control and were able to refocus them on us. Tango is quite the talker. That is typical for an Australian Cattle Dog. They LOVE to talk! Tango talks more than Topher does. She looks you right in the face and yelps. I used the "schizophrenic method" on her where I told her "ehh" loudly when she yelped, and praised her immediately once she stopped. It worked ok on her. She wasn't as receptive to it as Topher was when I was training him. It didn't help that I went to the vet and left behind everything I should have brought with me, including treats. Training always goes better when you have treats! Even without treats, I think today went well.
Tomorrow, Topher and Tanker are volunteering as R.E.A.D. Dogs at the library. Sunday, they both volunteer their regular shift at Snowden. They both got baths tonight so that they are nice and clean for the kids tomorrow. We love volunteering with our dogs!
Lastly, I'd like to add a picture from our neighborhood where we live. The Fall colors are beautiful in Northern Virginia!
Hi Zoo, I feel so naive. I always thought New England was the only place the trees turned. It looks very pretty there in NoVA.
